Founded in 2003 by David Beery and Dave Gearhart, the Panharmonic Steel Drum Orchestra is a unique group which features the all-acoustic sound of steel
pans to produce their beautiful music. The orchestra is made up of professional and semi-professional musicians from the Southern
California area who have been engaged in playing steel band music for numerous years. Developed on the island of Trinidad
in the 1940's, the steel pan has taken root throughout the world as one of the newest and most alluring acoustic musical instruments
in modern history. When a full orchestra of steel pans are played in combination with each other, the music that is produced
is unforgettable. Following in the footsteps of the great Trinidadian steel orchestra's, The Panharmonic is dedicated
to producing musical performances and recordings that are powerful, exciting, engaging, scintillating, and fun!
The
steel drum, or "pan", is the newest and most unique addition to the world of acoustic musical instruments. Created on the
island of Trinidad, the drums were fashioned by hand from oil barrels discarded by American ships during World War II. Since
that time, the pan has evolved into an instrument of unequaled beauty and charm, still handmade just as they were in the 1940s.
The Panharmonic Steel Drum Orchestra's pans were made and tuned by some of the finest artisans in the world.
